NEWS: Deepti Sharma to Lead UP Warriorz in 3rd WPL season

Where all the teams are busy in their planning in there own way, at the other end, UP Warriorz announced Deepti Sharma as their captain in the 3rd season of the WPL. All teams are geared up for the biggest league, as WPL has to start from 14 February in BCA Stadium, Vadodara. The first match to be play between the Gujarat Giants and RCB.

Indian cricketer, A Right-arm off-break allrounder Deepti Sharma, who was born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, is now become captain of UP Warriorz in the 3rd season of the WPL. This announcement of Deepti Sharma comes after their formar captain, Alyssa Healy, was ruled out of the WPL season three due to a stress injury in her right foot.

UP Warriorz has a decent player in their squad, as all-rounders Captain Deepti Sharma, Chamari Athapaththu, and Sophie Ecclestone, along with the best bowlers Rajeshwari Gaikwad and Saima Thakor.


Deepti Sharma said, “I am delighted and honoured to be named captain of the UP Warriorz, which is a team from my home state.”

“The UP Warriorz has an outstanding squad in WPL season three, and we are confident that we will entertain our fans with the Warriorz brand of cricket at the WPL this season as well. We can’t wait to play in Lucknow in front of our home fans and hope to inspire the next generation of women athletes.” said Deepti Sharma.

Deepti Sharma is a key player for UP Warriorz, where she is the highest wicket taker for their teams, and has captaincy experience where she led also led Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2022 also led Bengal in domestic cricket and East Zone in the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal One Day Trophy in 2024.

UP Warriorz will surely miss Alyssa Healy, who is their highest run scorer in the WPL, with 428 runs in 17 innings. Healy has a stress injury in her right foot; she has been going around injuries in recent times. She missed the T20I leg of the Women’s Ashes recently and only made it to the MCG Test after clearing a too-late fitness test.
